WE ARE (SUPPOSEDLY) A MONTH away from the launch of the new iPhone 8, according to online sources (leaks), we have a pretty good idea of what to expect about the incoming iPhone upgrades.

The iPhone 8 will be Apple’s 10th-anniversary smart phone (yes, it has been 10 years since the first Apple iPhone 2G). According to rumors, what it will debut is the word class wireless charging tech, a curved AMOLED display and an extraordinary? vertical dual rear-facing camera.

It is also believed that the iPhone 8 will launch alongside the less-impressive iPhone 7S and 7S Plus. (Personally, I doubt Apple will drive their prices down by releasing two new phones at once.)

Release date
The iPhone 8 is likely to be announced in September 2017, fitting to the 10 years anniversary theme since the mega-tech firm launched its first smartphone.

Allegedly, it might not be available for purchase until the fourth quarter, noting that the iPhone 8 may be available in limited quantity only. A note by analyst Timothy Arcuri from Cowen and Company has added weight to this and claims that production could be delayed due to issues with its Touch ID sensor.

Another report suggests the iPhone 8 may not arrive until 2018. A research Deutsche Bank, picked up by Business Insider, claims the smartphone won’t make it onto shelves this year due to supply chain issues and “technical challenges”.

As if just to confuse matters more, Digitimes is reporting that mass production of the iPhone 8 is on schedule and that the smartphone will see a release in October.

17/8/17: Yet another rumour has claimed that Apple will bin Touch ID on the iPhone 8 in favour of face recognition. Mehdi Hosseini of Susquehanna Financial Group told Barron’s that Apple has decided to ditch its planned fingerprint sensor under the glass of the screen, because of problems with its “controller” chip.

This month’s useful app of the month isn’t exactly a new app, but it has break through functions that warrant us to review it!

Google Translate

I am sure everyone has at least heard of Google translate. Other than the obvious function of translating text to your desired language, do you know that there are functions that will help you when you travel?

Ease while traveling, remove the language barrier with the use of one app.

The Google Translate app comes with many useful functions. Here are some of the functions…

• Offline: Translate with no Internet connection
• Instant camera translation: Translate text in images instantly by just pointing your camera (30 languages) Take or import photos for higher quality translations
• Conversations: Translate bilingual conversations on the fly
• Handwriting: Draw text characters instead of typing

Did someone say instant camera translation?

Yes, your eyes are not playing any tricks on you. Google Translate is able to translate text in images just by pointing your camera on the image! This is incredibly useful when you are sight seeing, reading signs may be tricky. Asking for directions may be tough due to the language barrier.

However, on top of the instant camera translation, there is a function where you may translate bilingual conversations by reading the words input and translating into the desired language. Asking for directions may not be easier!
